COVID-19 in Nursing Homes

Connecticut nursing homes are required by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to report on the impact of COVID-19 on their residents and staff through CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN). This reporting is intended to reflect recent COVID-19 activity in nursing homes.
Data presented here from NHSN reflect resident and staff COVID-19 cases and COVID-related deaths reported for Connecticut nursing homes for the previous week, Thursday–Wednesday. All nursing homes follow NHSN definitions and instructions when reporting to the NHSN COVID-19 module, ensuring data are reported in a systematic way. These data do not show where the resident or staff got infected. Detailed information about COVID-19 reporting for nursing homes and NHSN can be found here

Data relating to nursing home residents provided before July 22, 2020 were gathered by the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health’s (DPH) COVID-19 reporting portal for nursing homes. Reporting instructions for this portal can be found here.
On May 11, 2021, CMS outlined additional reporting requirements for nursing homes, including COVID-19 vaccination coverage data among residents and staff. For more facility specific COVID-19 data, including vaccination rates, please see CMS’ COVID-19 Nursing Home Data website

Important Data Notes

These data will be updated weekly each Thursday. Any data reported to NHSN received before posting is included. If no cases were reported, zero cases are displayed.
These data are also published by CMS here and summarized on CDC’s Nursing Home Data Dashboard here
If the data on CDC and CMS sites differ from these data, it is likely due to differences in reporting periods, as the data are drawn from the same NHSN database. Additionally, these data are considered preliminary and subject to change. Data entered into NHSN since October 25, 2021 are routinely updated.
