CT Prescription Monitoring and Reporting System (CPMRS)

The CT Department of Consumer of Protection, Drug Control Division’s Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP) maintains the CT Prescription Monitoring and Reporting System (CPMRS) and collects prescription records for Schedule II – V controlled substances, mandated by CT General Statutes Sec. 21a-254. Effective January 1, 2021, dispensation information for insulin drugs, glucagon drugs, diabetes devices, diabetic ketoacidosis devices, gabapentin, and naloxone are required to be uploaded into the CPMRS. The data presented only includes dispensations to CT residents reported to the CT Prescription Monitoring & Reporting System (CPMRS).
Beginning with Q1 2023, many of the metrics are reported out differently than in previous years. To view previously reported data, please see the data presentations found on the PMP Statistics webpage.

Prescription Drug Drop Boxes

CT has a Prescription Drug Drop Box Program which provides a safe disposal location for residents to properly dispose of unused household medications. These drop boxes are located throughout the state. Please use the map to find a location near you.

Controlled Substance Prescriptions by Drug Schedule

Controlled substances are classified into 5 drug schedules which are determined by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the CT Drug Control Division. The classification is based on a drug’s medical use and potential for misuse and dependency. Below are visualizations demonstrating the number of Schedule II through V controlled substance prescriptions dispensed in CT by year beginning in 2022.


Prescription Submission to Pharmacy

Effective January 1, 2018, all controlled substances require an electronic prescription. Prescribers are able to obtain a waiver from this requirement if they do not have the capacity to submit electronically.
