Connecticut COVID-19 Update
Day-to-day changes reflect newly reported cases, deaths, and tests that occurred over the last several days to week. All data in this report are preliminary; data for previous dates will be updated as new reports are received and data errors are corrected. Hospitalization data were collected by the Connecticut Hospital Association. Deaths reported to either the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner or DPH are included in the COVID-19 update.
As of June 2, 2022, the provisional 2020 census data* is being used to calculate age-adjusted COVID-19 case and mortality rates in the extended weekly COVID-19 report published on Thursdays. The 2020 estimates replace 2018 estimates that have been used. Caution should be taken when making comparisons of percentages calculated using the 2018 and 2020 census estimates since observed difference may result from the shift in the denominator.

The Past 7 Days column indicates all PCR/NAAT tests by specimen collection date from the past 7 days. Test positivity is calculated as a rolling 7-day test positivity by specimen collection date; all positive molecular (PCR/NAAT) test results are divided by all molecular (PCR/NAAT) test results (positive and negative) for the last 7 days and multiplied by 100 to reach a percentage. Hospitalizations over the past 7 days indicates the change in the number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 over that period. Deaths over the past 7 days indicates the number of new COVID-19 associated deaths reported.
COVID-19 Cases, Deaths and Tests Over Time
In Connecticut during the early months of this pandemic, it became increasingly clear that it would be necessary to track probable COVID-19 cases and deaths, in addition to laboratory-confirmed (e.g. RT-PCR) cases and deaths. This was needed to better measure the burden and impact of this disease in our communities and is now part of the national surveillance case definition for COVID-19. Prior to June 1, probable and confirmed cases were reported together.
COVID-19 Cases over Time
This chart shows the number of COVID-19 cases reported to CT DPH by day of first positive specimen collection or onset of illness.
COVID-19 Associated Deaths
This chart shows the number of COVID-19-associated deaths among Connecticut residents by date of death.
Number of COVID-19 Tests by Date of Specimen Collection
This graph shows the number of molecular and antigen tests reported to CT DPH by the date the specimen was collected
Cumulative COVID-19 Cases and Deaths by County, Town, Age, Gender, and Race/Ethnicity
The following graphs show COVID-19 data by the Connecticut counties.
COVID-19 by Age Groups
The graph below shows the number of COVID-19 cases and associated deaths by age groups.
COVID-19 by Race and Ethnicity
The following graphs show the number of cases and deaths by race and ethnicity. Categories are mutually exclusive. The category “multiracial” includes people who answered ‘yes’ to more than one race category.
COVID-19 Cases and Tests by Town
This map shows the distribution of COVID-19 cases by town for the past 7 days. To protect confidentially, the data in towns with fewer than five (5) cases or five (5) positive NAAT tests in the past seven (7) days are suppressed.
Data Quality and Status
CT DPH and its partners go to great lengths to provide accurate, high quality data. Due to the nature of public health surveillance, there are times when data updates are necessary. These include, but are not limited to, errors contained in the data CT DPH receives, updates to existing data as additional or new information becomes available, and the on-going de-duplication of cases and/or laboratory reports. CT DPH and your Local Health Department or District staff are all working to ensure only the best data and information are available.
